SCARCE EARLY COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. SN 14475. Cal. 45 Colt. Blue & color case hardened with 7-1/2″ bbl, orig German silver front sight and 1-line script address with serifs. Bottom of bbl under the injector rod housing is marked with last four digits of SN. Ejector rod housing is 1st type with bull’s eye ejector rod head and base pin is dimpled on each end. Left side of frame is marked with small, 2-line, 2-patent dates and left shoulder of trigger guard is stamped with caliber marking. Mounted with early style 1-pc ivory grip consisting of two ivory panels attached to two wood slabs glued together. Cyl also has last four digits of SN on outer circumference back of one flute. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver with bbl length and type of stocks not listed, shipped to B. Kittredge & Co., Cinn., OH, Oct. 20, 1874 in a shipment of 20 same type firearms. This revolver was probably originally shipped with 1-pc wood grip which was exchanged for the ivory grip, probably by the distributor. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 80-85% thin, lightly cleaned blue, stronger at the muzzle and frame ends. Frame & hammer retain most of their orig case colors, strong & bright on left side of frame and both sides of hammer with right side of frame, loading gate & left recoil shield fading to silver. Colors are brilliant in the sheltered areas. Cyl retains about 90% faded orig blue, strong & bright in the flutes. Trigger guard & back strap retain most of their orig blue, thin on front & back straps, strong in sheltered areas. Grip is sound with numerous fine age lines and retains a wonderful mellow ivory patina. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-36846 JR1 (5,000-8,000)
