OUTSTANDING LOT OF OVER 300 NATIVE AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHS BY HARMON P. MARBLE. The 312 photographs ranging in size from 20″ x 16″ to 5″ x 7″, the majority being 5″ x 7″‘s. The photographic images printed over a period of years depict a number of different tribes & reservations. The Native Americans are shown in traditional western settings wearing traditional clothing & performing various domestic tasks. They also depict the Native American in more transitional roles as they are assimilated into white culture. Many of the photographs have descriptive typed labels on reverse identifying the reservation, individual and location. Some of these descriptions indicate that Russell Hartman, noted authority on Native American photography, had, at one time, reviewed the collection and offered comments. NOTE: Harmon Percy Marble, born November 5, 1870 in Pawnee County, Nebraska, died in 1945 and was mayor in Las Vegas and photographer of Native Americans. He was first assigned to the Navajo Reservation in Arizona as a member of the Government Indian Service and then in 1913 to the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin. Later with the Sioux tribes at Ft. Thompson, South Dakota. He retired from the Indian Service in 1926.
