CENTENNIAL HALL MEDALLION QUILT, MANHEIM, LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA. Circa 1880. Wrought by Anna May Ensminger. Isosceles triangles with a 5” base and a 6-1/4” leg radiate out from a bandanna showing Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park at the Centennial Exposition of 1876. The triangles were sized to fit against the bandanna. There is one border. Each triangle is outlined, then quilted in V’s following the legs of the triangles. Brown thread was used on the dark fabrics, off-white thread on the white fabrics. Hand quilted with 6 stitches per inch; bandanna quilted in clamshells, border quilted in scallops. Quilt has a thin cotton batting, a front to back binding, and a light gray calico backing. SIZE: 92” x 92”. PROVENANCE: The quilt was passed down through the Ensminger/Kready family of Manheim, then acquired by the PA Quilt & Textile Museum – Lititz, PA.
