FINE NEW ENGLAND EAGLE CARVED PAINT-DECORATED BLANKET CHEST. 2nd quarter 19th century. The rectangular lid with molded edge opening to an interior fitted with a till above a drawer on runners, the dovetailed case with deeply carved front panel depicting a displayed eagle clutching crossed American flags centered by the Great Seal. The carving is on a pale sky-blue background, the chest painted a blue-gray and mounted with iron carrying handles. Chest on a molded base. SIZE: 18-1/2″ h. x 43-1/2″ l. x 18-1/4″ d. CONDITION: Paint appears original, lid showing remnants of paint in molded edges, with minor early repairs. All hardware appears original but hinges reset. Very good overall. 9-99400 (6,000-9,000)
