COLT ARTILLERY SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. SN 4277. Cal. 45 Colt. Blue & color case hardened with 5-1/2″ bbl, full front sight and 1-line script address with serifs. Left side of frame has 2-line patent dates and a small “U.S.” Mounted with 1-pc walnut grip that has the last four digits of a SN that appear to be “6387”. The bbl is numbered “4295”. Top of back strap & trigger guard have small “A” (Orville Ainsworth) inspector initials. Bbl & ejector rod housing are 1st type with the bull’s eye ejector rod head. Ejector rod stud is missing. Cyl has “DFC” (David F. Clark) inspector initials. Hammer appears to be 1st type with long checkered spur with a bar below and the base pin is a modern replacement without dimples. PROVENANCE: David Crocker Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine, as arsenal restored. Bbl retains about 90-92% strong arsenal blue with good feathers on either side of front sight and a few scattered spots of pitting under ejector rod housing around screw hole. Bbl address is a little thin but completely legible. Frame retains most of its orig arsenal case colors, heavily faded with stronger colors in sheltered areas. Loading gate is a gray metal patina. Trigger guard & back strap retain blue in sheltered areas with front & back straps a blue/gray patina. Cyl is a thin blue/gray patina with dull blue in flutes. Grip is sound showing moderate wear and retains about 85% orig varnish. Timing needs adjustment and hammer is not solid in safety notch, otherwise mechanics are fine. Strong bright bore with scattered pitting. 4-36842 JR18 (4,000-6,500)
