CONNECTICUT CHIPPENDALE CHERRY SLANT-LID SECRETARY. Second half 18th century. In two parts, the upper case with cove-molded swan’s neck pediment centering three spiral twist finials on reeded plinths above the frieze with shaped panels above a pair of paneled doors opening to shelves flanked by engaged fluted quarter columns. Joined to the lower case fitted with a sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with a row of valanced pigeon holes centering a fan carved prospect door opening to an interior fitted with a blocked serpentine drawer flanked by an arrangement of four document drawers above four graduated long drawers with thumbmolded edges, the uppermost flanked by lopers, the whole flanked by engaged reeded quarter columns above the molded base raised on platform ogee bracket feet. SIZE: 85″h x 40″ w of case x 22″ d. CONDITION: Professionally refinished & polished with mahogany finish. Hinges reset, brasses replaced. 9-90414 (4,000-6,000)
