SPECTACULAR 1885 DATED COLT CAVALRY SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. SN 114700. Cal. 45 Colt. Blue & color case hardened with 7-1/2″ bbl, full front sight and 1-line block letter address. Bottom of bbl has last four digits of SN under ejector rod housing. Left side of frame has 3-line patent dates and a small “U.S”. Mounted with outstanding 1-pc walnut grip with a crisp date “1885” over a crisp “FH” (Capt. Frank Heath) inspector cartouche on left side and a crisp “DFC” (David F. Clark) sub-inspector cartouche on right side. The Clark cartouche is a slight mis-strike being very light on bottom right edge. DFC inspector initials were observed on the frame, cyl, bbl & bottom left edge of grip along with the mystery “G” initial on trigger guard and butt strap. Those of us fortunate enough to have access to large numbers of firearms regularly encounter cavalry single actions but very few of us have ever had the opportunity to closely examine a crisp, probably unfired specimen such as this one. This is one of the finest Capt. Frank Heath inspected single actions on the market today. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, all matching, probably unfired. Overall retains about 98% crisp orig factory finish with strong feathers on each side of front sight and ejector rod stud. Bbl retains strong dark blue with only slight muzzle edge wear and a couple of tiny scratches on left side. Ejector rod housing & ejector rod head retain most of their orig factory blue with light edge wear and some minor thinning on outer radius of ejector rod housing. Frame & hammer retain virtually all of their orig case colors, slightly thinned & lightly faded on recoil shield & loading gate, turned slightly dark on top strap, strong & bright elsewhere. Cyl retains about 95% orig blue, thinning on outer diameter with front edge wear, strong & bright in flutes. Cyl pin retains strong orig blue overall. Screws retain virtually all of their orig blue. Trigger guard & back strap retain about all of their orig factory blue, very slightly thinned on front strap, turning a little plummy on back strap. Grip is crisp with very slightly worn edges and a few minor handling & storage nicks in the finish and retains virtually all of its orig factory finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. A truly wonderful example of a Capt. Frank Heath inspected cavalry revolver. 4-40697 JR173 (50,000-70,000)
