FINE FULL BODY GILT COPPER INDIAN WEATHERVANE. Late 19th century, New England. Depicting the stylized figure of Mashamoquet, Sachem of the Nipmuck tribe. With drawn bow the figure sits atop an arrow and retains its original standard with directionals and decorative ball. Museum stand included. Reference: A similar example is illustrated i ” A Gallery of American Weathervanes and Whirligigs” by Robert Bishop and Patricia Coblentz page 42 figure 60. A second example in ” Wind and Whimsy, Weathervanes and Whirligigs from Twin Cities Collections, Minneapolis Institute of Arts”, page 54 figure 49. SIZE: 24-1/2″ h x 31″ l. Overall: 61″ h. CONDITION: Weathervane appears to retain original gilt surfaces and has original stand and directionals. Very good overall. 9-29532 (10,000-15,000)
