HENRY PEMBER SMITH (American, 1854-1907) “NEW ENGLAND HOMESTEAD”. Fine oil on canvas New England scene shows a woman on a dirt road leading to a farmhouse which is hidden behind two large trees alongside a calm river with tree lined banks having distant field and houses. All under a refined sky with light blue tones and puffy cumulus clouds. Signed lower right. Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame which retains the Gordon Galleries Exhibition label with title and artist. SIZE: 25-1/4″ x 35″. CONDITION: Craquelure, some minor inpainting to cracks and spots. Otherwise very good. 9-96769 (8,000-12,000)
