PORTRAIT OF A BECKWITH FAMILY MEMBER IN LANDSCAPE. Oil on canvas painting shows a half portrait of a young woman with brown hair seated in an area of colorful wildflowers and in her lap are some freshly picked flowers. On the left side is a shoreline scene with a point of land, most likely a representation of Black Point in Niantic, Connecticut. Signed lower left “M. Sgambati”. Housed in a 1920s gilt frame. Note: The Beckwith family were early settlers of the East Lime-Niantic area of Connecticut. They had important business interests and were involved in local and state government. Other family member’s portraits hang in the East Lime Town Hall and State Capital in Hartford. SIZE: 36″ x 54″. Overall: 28-1/2″ x 56-1/2″. CONDITION: Lined, restored, with inpainting.
