FRANK C. MCCARTHY (American, 1924-2002) “HOSTILES AT BEAR WALLOW”. Outstanding oil on canvas western scene shows three Indian braves, two atop brown horses, one kneeling on a rock ledge next to a white horse. One holds a rifle, the other two with spears and appear to be tracking. All is seen against a barren rock ledge with small water flow with trees and mountain landscape beyond. Signed lower left. Housed in a magnificent decorated gilt frame with gilt liner. On reverse is a Legacy Gallery label, Scottsdale-Jackson Hole. Though not a native of the west, his art represents some of the finest western art in contemporary times. A fine example from this artist. SIZE: 24″ x 14″.
