IMPORTANT QUEEN ANNE CHERRY SECRETARY ON FRAME. Third quarter 18th century, Connecticut. In two parts, the upper case with swan’s neck pediment terminating in large carved rosettes, the molded cornice alternating with flame finials on plinths above the plain frieze above a pair of paneled doors opening to an interior fitted with fixed shelves. The lower case with sloping lid opening to an interior fitted with a row of valanced pigeon holes above two rows of document drawers. The lid supported on lopers above four long graduated drawers, all with thumb molded edges fitted to the conforming frame with molded edge. The frame with lobed central pendent raised on four short cabriole legs with scalloped returns on pad feet. SIZE: 85-3/4″ h x 37-3/4″ w x 19-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Illustrated “Furniture Treasury,” by Wallace Nutting volume one, figure 685. John S. Walton, Inc. New York City illustrated in the magazine “Antiques,” December, 1962. The Silvermine Tavern antique shops, Norwalk, Connecticut, December, 1947. Copies of this material accompany this lot.
