EXCEPTIONALLY RARE CHIPPENDALE CHILD’S SLANT LID DESK. Third quarter 18th century, probably Connecticut. This nice maple example with dovetailed case above the hinged lid with breadboard ends opening to an interior of drawers and pigeonholes above long drawers on a molded base raised on short cabriole legs with compressed ball-and claw feet. SIZE: 32-1/4″ h. Case: 26″ w x 13-3/4″ d. CONDITION: The desk retains old mahoganized finish. Brass is replaced but of the period. Minor renailing of secondary wood, backboard is original, drawer sides and runners professionally restored, old chip restoration to a drawer. Otherwise very fine condition with minor age appropriate wear and abrasions. 9-28460 (8,000-12,000)
