*COLT FIRST GENERATION DUAL CALIBER SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. SN 334309. Cal. 44 Russian & S&W Spcl. Blue & color case hardened with 7-1/2″ bbl, full front sight and 1-line block letter address with caliber marking “RUSSIAN AND / S&W. SPECIAL 44” on the left side. Left side of frame has 2-line 3-patent dates and rampant Colt without circle. Mounted with rampant Colt hard rubber grips numbered to this revolver. SN was observed in the usual places on bottom of frame, trigger guard & butt strap. There is a tiny “44” on bottom of bbl under the base pin. Accompanied by two Colt factory letters dated 1998 and 2008, both of which report the same information and identify this revolver in caliber 44 S&W with 7-1/2″ bbl, blue finish, type of stocks not listed and shipped to Warner Hardware Co., Minneapolis, MN, on Nov. 21, 1916 in a 1-gun shipment. Single actions with this style of dual caliber marking are quite scarce and seldom encountered. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching including grips, cyl is unnumbered. Bbl retains 97-98% dark glossy orig factory blue with feathers on each side of front sight and ejector rod housing stud. Ejector rod housing retains 90-92% strong orig blue with some thinning on outer radius. Frame & hammer retain most of their orig factory case colors, moderately faded, brilliant in sheltered areas. Cyl retains 96-98% glossy orig blue with only a light cyl line and some sharp edge wear. Trigger guard, front strap & butt strap retain most of their orig blue, slightly thinned on front strap and with some chemical spotting on butt strap. Back strap retains dark blue at the top with the back strap a blue/gray patina. Right grip has an internal compression fracture, not affecting the integrity of the grip, otherwise grips are sound showing light to moderate wear. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-40800 JR200 (8,000-12,000)
