RARE GALLE VICTOR HUGO VASE. Squat form vase with quadrefoil lip is a tribute vase to Victor Hugo with a verse “The star of the morning and the star of the evening” in French. This bowl features an underwater scene of a starfish as well as vegetation. Galle referred to this sort of glass as “Verreries Parlantes” (speaking glass). The coloration of the vase is also very unique with its deep burgundy and green hues representing murky waters. Signed on the side in cameo “Victor”, “Hugo” and “E. Galle” as well as the French verse. SIZE: 3″ t x 5-1/4″ w. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. 5-64307 (9,000-10,000)
