IMPORTANT PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN. Large oil on canvas three-quarter portrait shows a distinguished gentleman seated in an armchair with one hand at chest, the other on arm of armchair. A red curtain background and on his left side is a stand with inkwell, quill pen, and paper. He gazes to the left and wears glasses, a black coat with white collar. Very well executed and possibly a Gilbert Stuart or one of his contemporaries. Housed in a replacement gilt modern frame. SIZE: 50″ x 40″. Overall: 55-1/2″ x 45″. CONDITION: Some chipping to top 3″, old lining, still attached to its original stretcher, some restoration with inpainting. Otherwise very good. 9-90405 (3,000-5,000)
