ATTRIBUTED TO BENJAMIN CHAMPNEY (AMERICAN, 1817 – 1907) MOUNTAINOUS WATERFALL. Oil on canvas scene with mountainous backdrop of falls in the foreground with a placid pool below. Typical Champney-style trees in fall plumage. Unsigned. Reverse of stretcher pencil inscribed “CROMM, MARCH 1874″. Housed in what appears to be the original lemon gold frame. SIZE: 14″ x 12”. PROVENANCE: Found in an early estate in Phillips, Maine. CONDITION: Canvas untouched, never cleaned. Lemon gold frame has a blemish or an old touch up in the top left corner, otherwise, generally good. 9-97650 (1,000-2,000)
