THREE PIECES OF SCRIMSHAW. 19th to 20th century. American. Including two small teeth, first engraved with figure of woman, a flower in each hand. Second depicting sailor hands clasped in front of chest, standing on rocks. Third example is section of whale bone, scrimmed with ship under sail approaching a rocky head land titled “HOMEWARD BOUND”. SIZE: Teeth: 4″ h. Bone: 1-3/4″ h x 3-1/2″ l x 3-1/2 w. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: First tooth with narrow vertical shrinkage crack at both sides of base, otherwise very good. Second tooth with horizontal chip near tip of tooth, otherwise very good. Both teeth with good patina, slightly soiled. Whale bone section overall very good. 24648 (600-800)
