SCARCE BREVET REMINGTON DOUBLE BARREL ROLLING BLOCK PISTOL. SN 91. Cal. 9 mm Rimmed. Strange dbl bbl rolling block pistol with 5-1/2″ bbls, pinched post front sight with V-notch in the breech block flange. Pistol is built by Emil & Leo Nagant, Liege, Belgium, on Belgian patents under license from Remington during the period 1881-1894, with about 1,500 pistols produced in that time frame. These pistols were built on a rolling block type action with dbl hammers & sgl trigger. Left side of frame is marked “BREVET REMINGTON” and a Belgian proof. Right side of frame is marked “EM & L. NAGANT / LIEGE” between the hammer & breech block pins and “BREVET / NAGANT” at the front of the frame. There is a large Belgian proof behind the hammer pin and the right side of the bbl lug has the “ELG” and another Belgian proof. Mounted with coarse checkered 2-pc walnut grips and has an oval butt cap with stud & swivel. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbls retain about 50% orig blue turning plum with the balance a medium patina. Frame & trigger guard retain about 85% stronger orig blue toning to plum. Hammers & breech block also retain strong orig blue. Grips show heavy wear with dark oil staining and the checkering filled with hand grease.
