SCARCE REMINGTON 1871 ARMY ROLLING BLOCK PISTOL. SN 5271. Cal. 50CF, 8″ rnd bbl with half-moon front sight, no provision for rear sight. Small rolling block action with left side marked “REMINGTON’S ILION. N.Y. U.S.A. / PAT MAY 3 NOV 15TH 1864 APRIL 17TH 1866”. Left side also has 2 inspector stamps “P” & “S”. Grips are of straight grain uncheckered walnut with inspector’s cartouche on left side “CRS”. Inspection of tangs reveal matching assembly number “5440”, back tang also has serial number “5271” that can also be found in front tang channel of grip. There were only about 6,000 of these pistols made and about 5,000 sold to the U.S. Government. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 85-90% orig blue with minor muzzle wear and numerous fine nicks & scratches. Receiver retains 90% orig case colors, bright on sharp edges, and some minor nicks & scratches. Hammer and breech block with notch for rear sight remain bright and clean. Grip and forend are sound with strong cartouche, some minor nicks & dings and retain orig oil finish.
