CHARLES HERBERT WOODBURY (American, 1864-1940) “OAK WOOD WINTER”. Outstanding large oil on canvas winter landscape scene shows a deep snow filled ground looking through trees towards snow covered hills. Signed bottom right “Charles H Woodbury 23”. Titled on reverse of stretcher. Also having an Estate stamp “Charles H Woodbury /C.H.W.” and numbered “12” on reverse of canvas. Written in pencil is “Belonging to E. W. Perkins”. Housed in a wonderful carved and gilt wood replacement frame. NOTE: Exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, Special Exhibition of Works of Charles H. Woodbury, 1945. Accompanying the painting is the original label which is detached and a receipt and return receipt for the exhibition. SIZE: 29-1/4″ x 36-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Includes Mrs. Charles B. Perkins, Jamaica Plain, MA and the Estate of Dr. William B. Castle, Brookline, MA. CONDITION: Very good with one small patch to reverse with corresponding inpainting and minor spot inpainting. 9-95163 (12,000-18,000)
