TWO DRY COMPASSES AND HOLOSTERIC BAROMETER. 19th century. American. First dry compass on a gimbal in original box with old red paint, manufacture’s name on dial “C.R. SHERMAN & CO. NEW BEDFORD”. Second compass on a gimbal within a round brass container fitted with lid, unknown manufacturer. Barometer with silvered dial in a conforming brass case, dial marked “GALL & LEMBKE / NEW YORK”, additionally marked “MADE IN FRANCE”. SIZE: First: Box 5″ h x 7 1/2″ sq. Dial 4-1/2 dia. Second: 1-3/4″ h x 3-3/4 dia. overall. Third: 2″ h x 5″ dia. PROVENANCE: From a fine New Jersey home. CONDITION: Dry compass and box with normal and expected wear and corrosion, paper dial discolored. Second compass, very good overall. Barometer very good. 9-24624 (400-600)
