*REMINGTON NO. 5 ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE. SN NONE. Cal. 30 US (30-40 Krag). Built on a No. 1 action with 28″ tapered light weight rnd bbl, Rocky Mtn. front sight with German silver blade and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Caliber marking is on top of bbl forward of rear sight. Top tang has usual Remington company & patent markings with shield shaped checkered panels on breech block tab& hammer spur. Mounted with uncheckered straight grain American walnut with long, rnd, tapered forearm that has a black insert schnable tip. Buttstock has straight grip with “RA Co” embossed hard rubber buttplate. Although these rifles were made in fairly large quantities for smokeless powder cartridges they are rarely found with high orig finish given that they were inexpensive and saw very hard use as hunting rifles. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 96-97% strong orig blue with only some thinning around muzzle. Receiver retains dark case colors over most surfaces. Stock has a hairline below bottom tang and another back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound with normal handling & use nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig factory finish.
