*VERY RARE REMINGTON NO. 7 ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE. SN 300073. Cal. 25-10. Very rare Remington Rolling Block, one of less than 500 made in the period 1903-1906 with few surviving today. This rare rifle is built on a Model 1871 rolling block pistol action with 26-1/2″ tapered oct to rnd bbl with ivory bead hunting front sight and pedestal mounted large loop Lyman tang sight. Top flat of bbl has no provision for a rear sight and is marked with the Remington Arms Ilion, NY address. Bottom of bbl has the caliber marking on rnd portion above forearm and the last two digits of SN on bottom flat of bbl under forearm. Rifle is mounted with very nicely figured, checkered, slab sawed American walnut with delicate tapered, black insert, schnable tip forearm and a most unusual deep pistol grip stock with hard rubber grip cap and “RA Co.” embossed hard rubber buttplate. SN was observed on bottom tang with last two digits of SN on bottom of bbl, rear face of the forearm trunion and inside top tang channel of buttstock. Left side of top tang under the wood is marked “4110” and bottom tang “4635”. These rifles were rather expensive for their time and given their unusual appearance apparently were never popular with the buying public which limited their production. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl retains 93-95% dull orig blue, slightly thinned on right side of round portion. Receiver, trigger guard, top & bottom tangs retain traces of faded case colors being mostly a silver/brown patina. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches, handling & storage marks and retains most of its orig factory varnish. Grip cap has a repaired crack, buttplate is sound showing light to moderate wear. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-36927 JR222 (4,000-7,000)
