PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SIDE CHAIR. Second half 18th century, probably Philadelphia. The serpentine crest rail with outswept molded ears, above the pierced vasiform splat joined to the trapezoidal molded seat frame, fitted with slip seat cushion. Raised on chamfered square frontal legs, the backswept rear legs of tenon construction. The whole joined by recessed box stretcher. SIZE: 35-1/2″ h of back. 16-1/2″ h of seat. PROVENANCE: From the private collection and estate of Robert Nugent, Glenridge, New Jersey. CONDITION: Generally very good. Professionally re-tightened and re-polished. Rear blue blocks replaced. 9-28227 (400-600)
