ATTRIBUTED TO JAN LIEVENS (Dutch, 1607-1674) PORTRAIT OF SIR ANTHONY VAN DYKE (Flemish, 1599-1641). Oil on canvas half portrait of a young Van Dyke seated looking over his left shoulder with a gold chain on his dark robe. He wears a mustache and goatee and has long brown hair. The painting is signed illegibly lower left which may be the initials of Jan Lievens. Lievens was a student of Van Dyke and we are told that there are two portraits by Lievens of which one is accountable. Housed in what is purportedly a 17th Century frame that is carved wood with gilt surface. SIZE: 25-1/4” x 20-1/2”. CONDITION: Relined. Restored with inpainting. 9-90545 (20,000-30,000)
