HANDEL SIGNED BLACKBIRD TABLE LAMP. Wonderful Handel reverse painted table lamp is decorated with richly colored exotic birds flying amongst foliage all set against a black background. Birds are beautifully colored with orange, yellow, purple and maroon feathers and the foliage is beautifully highlighted with light green areas that glow when the lamp is lit. Shade is signed on the interior “Handel 7026” and artist signed “Bedigie”. Exterior of the shade is done in a chipped ice finish and has a gold heavily enameled shade ring. Shade is supported by a three legged base with acanthus leaf design and a center support to match. Base supports a three socket cluster with tassel pulls. Base is signed on the underside with cloth tag Handel Lamps. We have been told that this lamp is the one pictured in the book Handel Lamps: Painted Shades & Glassware by Robert DeFalco, Carole Goldman Hibel & John Hibel on page 137. SIZE: Shade is 17-3/4″ dia. Lamp is 24″ t. CONDITION: Shade is very good to excellent with some minor roughness on inside edge from the making. Base is good with areas of corrosion on the foot. 5-60325 (7,000-10,000)
