RARE CHIPPENDALE WALNUT JACOB MAUS TALL CASE CLOCK. Last third 18th century, Pennsylvania/Trenton, New Jersey area. The bonnet with swan’s neck pediment terminals of carved floral rosettes flanked by flame finials centering a C-scrolled pierced cartouche. Above an astragal arched door flanked by freestanding colonettes opening to the brass dial with moon phase dial in the arch. The dial with time and strike apertures within Roman numeral and Arabic chapter rings. The dial mounted with a name plate inscribed “Jacob Maus/Trenton” centering a calendar aperture. The eight day brass time and strike movement striking on a bell. The case with figured walnut panel door with tombstone arch flanked by engaged fluted quarter columns joined to the molded box base applied with a shaped figural turtle back panel flanked by quarter columns on a molded base raised on well formed ogee bracket feet. SIZE: 8’3″ h x 12-1/2″ w of throat x 10-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: Collection and shop contents of Linda and the late Vito Peri (owners of the Blue Dolphin Antique Shop, Northport, Maine). CONDITION: Good refinished surface, old extended seat board blocks. Back board has old repair on top right corner, hour hand shortened, old repaint to moon dial. 9-90033 (7,500-12,500)
