MARTIN JOHNSON HEADE (AMERICAN, 1819 – 1904) “APPLE BLOSSOMS”. Fine oil on canvas painting of an apple branch with open and closed blossoms next to green leaves. Against a dark to light brown background. Signed lower left “M. J. HEADE/1871”. Housed in its original gesso-decorated wood frame with artist’s plaque. Having a paper label and metal tag “NO 17” which corresponds to item number 17 in a catalog of Gallery of Paintings at the Parsonage of St. Thomas Church from the Collection of Wm. Mason, Esq. The two-page original catalog from this sale is included with the lot. Along with a card labeled Cope Estate-Linnie Cope. The catalog appears to be from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Also there is a label “ARTHUR W. HUBBARD 51 BROMFIELD ST./BOSTON” affixed to frame. SIZE: 12″ x 10″. CONDITION: Very good. 9-97550 (50,000-75,000)
