SOLON FRANCIS MONTECELLO BADGER (American, 1873-1919) PORTRAIT OF THE SCHOONER “MARY CURTIS”. Large oil on canvas ship portrait shows the black hulled three-mast schooner in full sail sailing right to left. American flag off back mast, vessel pennant off middle mast. Eight figures on deck. The name of the ship on bow and stern. The ship sails in blue, white tipped wavy ocean with low land having grass and beaches. A gray and black lighthouse is seen off the bow. All under a blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower right “SFM Badger 99”. Housed in what appears to be its original oak frame with beaded gilt liner under glass. Back canvas having written “SFM Badger Cha’s’n 99 Mass”. SIZE: 22″ x 36″. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine CONDITION: Very good. 9-92432 (12,000-15,000)
