*RARE WINCHESTER HI-WALL SCHUETZEN RIFLE WITH SCOPE. SN 85535. Cal. 32-40. Wonderful Schuetzen rifle with 30″ No. 3 weight oct to rnd bbl mounted with a 34-3/8″ Stevens scope with fine crosshairs. Front scope mount is in the front sight dovetail and the rear mount, which is adjustable, is in a special narrow dovetail in the top flat. Mounted with extremely beautiful burl & shell grain American walnut with checkered black insert schnable tip forearm & capped pistol grip stock with Swiss cheek piece and nickeled brass Swiss buttplate with medium prongs. Bottom tang is equipped with close coupled dbl-set triggers. Left side of lower tang, under the wood, is stamped with assembly number “9733” and “XXX” along with the initials “SBC”. Assembly number was observed on the buttstock, under buttplate and inside toe of buttplate. Forearm does not have the assembly number, however inside the bbl channel is stamped with a “3” to match the weight of the bbl and also has the pencil notation “Nov. 1903 W.B.P.”. The scope is marked with the “J. STEVENS ARMS & TOOLS CO.” name & address and “PAT. PNDG.” Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum information sheet identifying this rifle in caliber 32-40 with 30″ No. 3 half oct bbl, set triggers, checkered stock with pistol grip, Swiss cheek piece, Swiss plate, no rear seat and case hardened. It was received in the warehouse and shipped March 2, 1900 to Order No. 52575. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, all matching except forearm as noted. Overall retains virtually all of its strong orig factory finish with deep dark blue on bbl with only a small ring of wear around muzzle. Receiver retains about all of its brilliant orig factory case colors. Breech block & hammer retain about all of their orig factory case colors and lever retains strong case colors in sheltered areas being mostly silvered case colors. Top & bottom tangs also retain brilliant case colors. Wood is sound with a few minor handling & storage nicks & scratches and retains virtually all of its brilliant piano varnish finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Scope retains about 96-97% strong orig blue with a series of light scratches near front end. Optics are crisp & clear. 4-40864 JR239 (10,000-15,000)
