ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) “STAR OF THE SEA”. Oil on board scene shows the four-mast black hulled ship sailing right to left in choppy sea. The ship is seen in half sail and there are three men on deck. The name is emblazoned on the bow and stern. Sky is dark gray and white clouds with a flock of seagulls seen over a three-mast ship off the stern. Signed lower right “A. Jacobsen 1908” and titled bottom left “Star of the Sea Capt. Chr. Hemple”. Housed in a mahogany veneered period frame having a gold liner. SIZE: 15-3/4” x 28”. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Board with slight warp, very edge of painting has paint loss. Three chips in sky, otherwise good. 9-92449 (5,000-7,000)
