ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) SHIP PORTRAIT OF THE “GREAT WESTERN”. Oil on board scene shows the three-mast black and white hulled ship sailing right to left with partial sails up. The front second sail having a large black circle denoting Black Ball Line which is the owner. The name emblazoned on the bow. American flag flies off the back mast and ship is sailing through heavy seas under black and white cloud sky. Signed lower right “Antonio Jacobsen 1910”. Housed in a flat dark stained oak frame. SIZE: 22” x 36”. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Two chips in sky, some brown board showing through in sky, surface has light scuffs and is in need of cleaning.
