THOMAS H. WILLIS (American, 1850-1925) PORTRAIT OF THE TUG “GASPEE”. The picture worked in silk embroidery and velvet with oil on canvas background. Signed lower right “Tom Willis 1913”. The green hulled tug having a brown deck house, black and red stack, four figures aboard with American flag off back flagpole. The name on bow and nice details including pilot house eagle, lifeboat, smoke and flags. Housed in a shadowbox type frame having glass front, gold liner and a wonderful flat wood exterior frame which has a wonderful alligatored finish. SIZE: 18” x 26”. Overall is 24-1/2” x 32-3/4”. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Very good. 9-92543 (2,500-4,000)
