MARGUERITE STUBER PEARSON (American, 1898-1978) “THE BLUE KIMONO”. Outstanding large oil on canvas interior scene shows a young woman in a blue flower decorated kimono with white dress seated in front of a fireplace arranging flowers in an Oriental blue and white ginger jar. The William & Mary gateleg table is fully extended beside her which holds a pair of scissors, cut flowers, a bowl, and figurine with printed gold and blue fabric. In the foreground is a Hepplewhite chair with other cut wild flowers on its seat. The background shows a white mantle with side bookshelf and painting. A solitary brass candlestick with tall white taper sits to the right side of the mantle. Signed lower left. Housed in a fine carved and gilt reproduction frame. On reverse are two gallery labels including Vose Galleries of Boston, MA and Bianco Gallery of Buckingham, PA. Also on reverse of canvas is written “Reproduction right reserved by Aaron Ashley, Inc.”. This is one of Pearson’s finest works. SIZE: 30″ x 36″. PROVENANCE: From a fine Sudbury, MA home.
