REGENCY INLAID MAHOGANY COMMODE. Circa 1800, England. The square top with molded edges hinged and opening to an interior fitted with wash basin and circular receptacles for cups and utensils, above the conforming case with simulated drawer above a cabinet door above a shallow drawer above a simulated drawer front continuing to square frontal legs, the whole sliding forward exposing a platform fitted with a turned circular cover concealing a waste bowl. The case sides mounted with brass carrying handles. The cabinet front additionally adorned with oval ebony and satinwood stringing. SIZE: 33″ h x 20-1/2″ w x 20-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Southern Maine private collection. Obtained from Prichard Antiques, Cheltenham, UK. CONDITION: With original polished surfaces and brass hardware. No restoration noted. Normal and expected minor shrinkage cracks to case sides along seams. Overall very good. 9-29407 (400-600)
