UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) FOLK ART HOMESTEAD PORTRAIT. Typed label on reverse indicates that this is New Gloucester, Maine. Watercolor scene shows a white house with outbuildings, one having date “1855”. The woman of the house stands in the doorway while the man walks along a dirt road carrying scythe. Two daughters are seen, one with each parent. A horse and carriage with foal are at barn. The family dog is seen running after cow and the family cat is seated on stump in foreground. Housed in an antique molded wood frame. SIZE: Sight: 12-3/4″ x 16-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Repaired X-shaped tear bottom left, corner slice.
