CONFEDERATE BLOCKADE RUN ENFIELD RIFLE. Cal. .577. 33” bbl. This is a scarce iron mounted rifle that was run through the blockade. SN 2876 is stamped on bottom of buttplate comb. “JS over anchor” is stamped just forward of the SN. This is a very scarce Confederate pattern Enfield, probably less than 20 examples are known. Bbl exhibits Birmingham proof marks and 25 gauge markings. Lock is marked with crown and 1861, TOWER. Gun has orig Civil War leather sling attached. Bayonet stud is broken off, retaining only its base. Rear sight is missing. CONDITION: Stock cleaned. Metal surface is gray/black. Rear band is pitted, as is breech of bbl. Ramrod is pitted.
