ATTRIBUTED TO JAMES EMERY (American, 1819-1899) A VIEW OF CASTINE, MAINE. Oil on mahogany cigar box board shows a shoreline with dry dock, buildings and beach. A calm water is seen with sailboats and mountains beyond. A photograph with a different painting is attached to back with artist and “Worked with Fitz Hugh Lane at Castine, Maine”. Back of the panel has pencil inscription twice “Castine”. Unsigned front but there is some other writing which is illegible. Housed in a period gilt decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 5-1/4″ x 15-1/4″. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine. CONDITION: Very good. 9-92404 (500-800)
