FRANK HENRY SHAPLEIGH (American, 1842-1906) “COHASSET, MASSACHUSETTS; CAPE COD”. Outstanding oil on canvas coastal view of the Massachusetts coast in the town of Cohasset. An expansive view across Cape Cod with blue water supporting several sailboats and one steamship. A tall sand dune bluff is seen with houses and grass top and a man works on a small boat at the high tide mark. The foreground with small waves lapping onto the rocks. The light blue sky with cloud layers. Initialed bottom right “FHS”. Housed in an outstanding gesso decorated gilt antique style frame with gilt liner. Remains of a Newman Galleries label on reverse. SIZE: 14″ x 24″. CONDITION: Very good with some inpainting. 9-97493 (6,000-9,000)
