CARVED & POLYCHROME-PAINTED CAROUSEL DOG, PROBABLY GUSTAVE BAYOL OR COQUERAU & MARECHAL. 1st quarter 20th century, French. Carved in a running position, this cream-painted dog applied with red and gold saddle, brass holding ring and stirrup connections. This realistically carved animal retains original painted surfaces, many times painted over. SIZE: 23-1/2″ h. x 36″ l. PROVENANCE: From the auction sale in 2002 of the contents of the Madame Tussaud Wax Museum, Wookey Hole, Somerset, England, to the current owner. CONDITION: Structurally very good, the painted surfaces dry. 9-99638 (2,000-5,000)
