AMERICAN LEAPING STAG COPPER WEATHERVANE. The full-bodied leaping copper stag with hammered surfaces, similar in form and style to those by J. W. Fiske, depicted with forward-angled antlers and upright curled tail, mounted on an “L”-shaped pipe extending to top of head. SIZE: Stag: 31″ h. x 41″ l. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, ME. CONDITION: Retains old brown patina and black painted hoofs over original gilding, seam splits beneath forelegs and back at tail. Top of head has suffered substantial damage from pipe being forced through it, tearing top of head and damaging antlers at juncture to head. Sheet metal ears also damaged as is tail at juncture to body. All damage restorable. 9-92552 (5,000-8,000)
