RARE REVOLUTIONARY WAR POWDER HORN, KINGSTON, NEW YORK. 1750-1777. This small scrimshaw example on a cow’s horn fitted with pine end cap attached with pewter nails, scrimmed with an historically important depiction of the stockade at Kingston, New York on the Hudson River. Depicting numerous buildings including one flying the Dutch flag. The scene is beneath a large sun depicted with face and rays above a border depicting various sized ships, and a canoe with an Indian. The reverse scrimmed with a compass. Note: The stockade was burned to the ground in its entirety in October of 1777 by advancing British troops. Related documentation accompanies this lot. SIZE: 7-1/2″ l overall. CONDITION: Very fine condition overall, with nice color and patina. 9-27779 (2,000-4,000)
