PRIMITIVE NEW ENGLAND WOODEN WEATHERVANE OF THE ‘U.S.S. CONSTITUTION’. Late 19th, early 20th century. The three-masted carved wooden ship with sheet-metal back staysail and sheet-metal American flag, the whole outfitted with wire rigging, the hull painted black and white, green beneath the water line. SIZE: Overall w. 16″. 37″ h. x 50″ l. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, ME. CONDITION: Overall weathered surfaces, the painted surfaces dry and flaking, structurally sound with the exception of a split bowsprit, in need of cosmetic restoration. 9-92564 (500-1,000)
