LOT OF 3 AMERICAN SWORDS. 1) 1840 period Ames Band Sword with 28″ blade and solid brass handle with D-guard & rounded hexagonal quillion. Accompanied by its orig leather covered scabbard with brass throat & drag. 2) 1840s Staff Officer’s sword with narrow 30″ dbl edged blade, etched in oak leaf & acorn patterns with a stand of flags on one side and a trophy of arms and eagle clutching olive branches & arrows with a ribbon in its beak inscribed “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on other side. It has a brass, spread-winged eagle langet with handguard, a ribbed bone handle and brass knight’s head pommel cap. Accompanied by an orig brass scabbard with frog hook and two rings. 3) 1840s Naval Officer’s sword with 26-1/2″ narrow dbl edged blade, brass D-guard handle with mushroom quillion and decorated langet with wire-wrapped leather handle. PROVENANCE: From a coastal New Jersey home. CONDITION: 1) Fine. Brass is polished bright; blade is fine; leather covering is intact. 2) All brass is polished bright; scabbard missing the throat; handle is fine; blade has some staining but all etching is visible. 3) Dark metal patina, blade tip probably broken & re-shaped; heavy pitting; brass a dark mustard patina; handle shows wear. 9-24230 (300-500)
