VERY RARE INSCRIBED WINCHESTER 1895 FLAT SIDE DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 3668. Cal. 30US, 28″ rnd bbl, pedestal front with pinned German silver blade, serrated side V-notch sporting rear with set screw. Top of bbl is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.” Adjacent receiver “30U.S.” Early flat side receiver with solid lever with top tang marked “WINCHESTER / MODEL 1895.” Left side is inscribed in script “JOHN W. FRY / IN APPRECIATION OF HIS KIND ATTENTIONS IN 1896 / FROM J.G.” Mounted with “XXX” walnut, checkered pistol grip, Winchester hard rubber grip cap, Winchester hard rubber buttplate, H-style checkered schnable forend with ebony tip insert. Inspection of left side of lower tang reveals assembly number “E887XXXSRB”. Top tang channel of stock is stamped “887”. Accompanying gun is a Cody Firearms Museum fact sheet identifying as 30 cal rifle, rnd bbl, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, rubber shotgun butt. Received in warehouse 5-24-97. Shipped same day on order number “8404”. R & R 8-3-97 order number “12508”. CONDITION: Extremely Fine. Bbl retains 98-99% orig blue with a couple minor nicks & dings. Receiver, lever and mag box retain 95-97% orig blue, thinning on sharp edges and across top, some minor spots of flaking blending with brown patina and normal minor nicks & scratches. Hammer, trigger and trigger plate retain strong, bright orig case colors, slightly thinning on trigger and blending with silver patina. Stock is sound with sharp checkering, a few minor nicks & scratches and retains nearly all of its fine orig finish. Forend is sound with sharp checkering, a couple minor nicks & dings and retains nearly all of its fine orig finish. Mechanics are crisp with bright shiny bore as gun appears to have seen little use. 4-40185 BDT246 (12,500-17,500)
