PAIR OF GEORGE II STYLE WALNUT GAMES TABLES. Late 19th century, England. These fine Centennial benchmade examples, each with burled walnut hinged demilune top with concave center, crossbanded, and with inlaid cartouches of contrasting scrolling “seaweed” patterns of delicate vinery inlay. The conforming apron fitted with a central drawer, similarly inlaid and raised on six faceted tapering ring-and ball-turned legs on bell feet. The legs joined by flat rectangular box stretchers, all with inlaid “seaweed” cartouches. The inner hinged and swinging rear legs opening to support the top when opened. The first top lined with central needlework panel wrought with exotic birds amidst foliage, the second depicting a woman seated within a landscape, all within a foliate border. Each panel with burled walnut border filled with cartouches inlaid with vinery. SIZE: 29-1/2″ h x 32″ w x 13-1/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Structurally sound surfaces. Original veneers mostly intact. Hairline cracks and rippling in veneers throughout. 9-29193 (4,000-6,000)
