EXCEPTIONAL AMERICAN VICTORIAN “STARBURST” HOOKED RUG. Wrought with an octagonal central polychrome stylized star with multiple polychrome layers of diamond-form fleches (kaleidoscope effect) within spandrels woven with flowers and cornucopias on a coffee ground. Marked and dated “1876 May 10 Centennial 1876″. SIZE: Approximately 7′ 4”. PROVENANCE: Richard Paine Estate, Seal Cove, Maine CONDITION: Extensive areas professionally re-woven with canvas backing.
