PAIR OF WILLIAM AND MARY STYLE ARMCHAIRS. Late 19th century, probably England. Each rectangular overupholstered back joined to shaped and molded arms continuing to scrolling molded hand grips on conforming supports centering trapezoidal overupholstered seat, raised on bold molded scrolling frontal legs and block turned rear legs, all joined by a turned and blocked H stretcher. The arched molded frontal stretcher foliate carved with molded volutes. Each chair covered in earlier muted polychrome tapestry depicting figures and exotic birds in dense foliate landscape. SIZE: 40″ h of back, 16-1/2″ h of seat x 26-1/2″ w overall. PROVENANCE: From a fine Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Tapestry covering showing wear and light even soiling. Structurally very good with old polished surfaces. Pegged construction throughout. Good overall. 9-29192 (3,000-5,000)
