RARE COPPER STEEPLECHASE HORSE & JOCKEY WEATHERVANE. Late 19th century, America. this large gilded copper weathervane depicting a horse and rider jumping over a double gate. The rider and head of the horse both in zinc. Note, a similar example is illustrated on figure 128, page 76 in “A Gallery of American Weathervanes and Whirligigs”, by Bishop and Coblentz. Offered with a museum stand. SIZE: 24′ h x 31-1/2″ l. CONDITION: Gilded surfaces mostly intact, reign detached from proper right hand of jockey. Otherwise very good. 9-28184 (8,000-10,000)
